Natural Follicles is a family run business

All about Khyesha

Khyesha (Khy), I started my natural journey in 2011. I've always been semi natural as I have never used relaxer, however, I loved straighteners and weave, experimented with different gels, and used range of other products that my hair didn't thank me for. Eventually my hair said enough is enough and started falling out at an alarming rate.

Even though I have always been semi natural, I still felt it was a big step to completely give up my straighteners and throw out my weave and extensions. I loved that I could throw in some weave to give me the hair that I wanted and was apprehensive on how long my hair would grow and if it would eventually look like my weaves (I always wore weaves similar to my hair texture). Unlike some people, I wasn't concerned with what others thought. Being in college at the time, my friends (male and female) were all concerned with looks and were making jokes about my decision to start being natural and were advising me against it. Even family members laughed at the notion of me thinking i could stop my love affair with my straighteners but I just brushed everyone off and told them when my natural hair is blowing in the wind like Beyoncé's they will wish their girlfriends or themselves were doing what I'm going to start. After running out of excuses for starting my natural journey, I decided that I had to start from where I was and learn to love  and understand my hair first and admire others' from afar.

So here we are, after changing my mindset as to what “good” hair was, I started to learn about my hair, paying particular attention to how it felt, what I was putting on it and how it responded to different products. I replaced harsh chemical filled shop bought products with more natural hair loving products, then decided to make my own which gave me fantastic results.

I started my company to share my success with others, it is not just about selling quality natural hair products, it’s about introducing others to a whole new way of thinking, providing knowledge and understanding about the health and well-being of their hair. It is not just about what you put on your hair and how you treat it, it’s also about what you put in your body to provide it with nourishment.

So whether you are relaxed or natural, I hope you will join us and together we will grow and be proud of our beautiful follicles. Natural Follicles.

Marie,

Being natural is a state of mind. I have been natural now for over 20 years, however, it was profile 2decision that was made over night. I spent a long time contemplating what people would say, how I would fit in and how it might effect my job, eventually I found the confidence and courage to stand up for myself and face whatever questions were to come, which actually was not much at all.

To me, being natural is much more than just having natural hair, it is also about living a more natural lifestyle and where possible substituting synthetic man-made remedies for a the more nature derived natural options. Using herbal remedies and infusions has been a part of my families for many years.

I suffered from eczema for many years, from my youngest days right up until my late twenties when my daughter was born (yes that is her up there). I tried a vast array of lotions and potions that were prescribed and were supposed to relieve my suffering but alas to no avail.

It was after Khy was born that I started to investigate herbal remedies, as I wanted to be better prepared to support her if she found herself struggling with eczema, and that is when I discovered the power of soothing and cleansing herbs and I have never looked back, the rest as they say is history.

There are so many amazing leaves, flowers and barks that help to sooth, calm, condition and stimulate hair growth that we just had to infuse and combine them to formulate quality hair products that will stimulate and support the growth of your Natural Follicles.

Join us on our journey and see what else we will discover together.

    1. Hi, thank you for your comments, I’m glad your inspired, its hard work but I’m still trying, learning and enjoying it (well most of the time).
This is a WordPress site, they are reasonably easy to use and build once you find a theme that you like and meets your needs, there are lots of free ones to choose from once you download WordPress. I’m still learning as I am quite new to this business.

It’s not as easy as people make out, so don’t believe when you see build a website in half a day. lies!! It has taken months to get here, and there is still so much to do, but it is very rewarding when you see what you can achieve.

      Good luck.

  5. Hey there are using WordPress for your site platform?

I’m new to the blog world but I’m trying to get started and
set up my own. Do you require any coding expertise to make your own blog?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hi, yes this is a word press site, they are reasonably easy to use but it is time consuming as you don’t always understand how thins work, I haven’t had to learn any coding, and there is a lot of support and guidance video available. Once you find a theme that you like, (and there are lots of free ones to choose from) it’s just about trial and error. I’m still learning as I am myself quite new to this business.

I started learning by watching how to build a word press website on YouTube, and I’m still learning about building the website, blogging the whole lot, but to be honest I quite enjoy the challenge.

It’s not as easy as people make out but it is very rewarding when you see what you can achieve.

      Good luck.

      Stay positive, stay constructive
